Meet Maria Kyritsi, MD

Dr. Maria Kyritsi is a US-trained physician from Greece who specializes in Geriatrics, Anti-Ageing and Hyperbaric Medicine. Dr. Kyritsi graduated with honors from the School of Medicine at the University of Thessaly, Greece, and upon graduation, she decided to pursue advanced training in Family Medicine at her home country of Greece. After completing a 4-year residency program and becoming board-certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Kyritsi wanted to further advance herself medically and gain experience and clinical exposure to the United States of America healthcare system that is considered one of the best worldwide.

She successfully completed a rigorous medical exam process (US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)) and interview process. Dr. Kyritsi was accepted at the Icahn School of Medicine- Mount Sinai Internal Medicine Residency program where she completed 2 years of training in General Internal Medicine followed by a 1-year fellowship in Geriatrics Medicine at the Albert Einstein- Montefiore University Hospital. Working in metropolitan New York City as part of two renowned health care systems gave Dr. Kyritsi invaluable medical experience and fundamentally shaped her way of clinical practice.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kyritsi has worked with patients from different socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles. Her clinical experiences made her realize that when it comes to practicing medicine and caring for patients the model of “one size fits all” cannot adequately address the patients’ needs and target the root causes of their illness.

Dr. Kyritsi’s ultimate goal is to provide high quality, personalized primary care with great emphasis on prevention and wellness. Given her background in Geriatrics Medicine, she is particularly enthusiastic about working with her patients in setting health goals that could delay -and even reverse- parts of the aging process.

For Dr. Kyritsi, pairing Western Medicine with certain clinical practices of Functional Medicine is the key to achieve both physical and mental wellness. Looking at the individual’s genetic profile along with environmental and lifestyle factors (epigenetics) that can affect their overall well-being and the propensity to disease, Dr. Kyritsi can craft an individualized wellness plan to optimize her patients’ wellbeing. In case of an overt disease process, hormonal imbalance, chronic digestive or metabolic disease the treatment plan is a combination of physiological re-programming along with evidence based Medicine tools available nowadays.

Her areas of interest include anti-aging and metabolomics. Telomeres analysis is used to calculate the person’s biological age and it is known that short telomeres can accelerate the onset of cardiovascular disease, type 2 Diabetes and carcinogenesis. At the same time, metabolomics is an unbiased system approach to study and understand the aging process. Biogenetics have a shown a tremendous progress the last decade and that is truly a gift for cutting edge Medicine like modern Functional Medicine.

Dr. Kyritsi’s practice philosophy revolves around setting health goals in collaboration with her patients and using a stepwise approach in order to achieve them. Her primary goal is the provision of high quality medical services along with love and understanding for the individual needs of each patient.
